The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa
The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa is a collaborative effort between the Sentosa Leisure Group, which manages Singapore’s island resort of Sentosa, and Temasek Polytechnic, a government tertiary institution that is renowned for its market-oriented and industry-relevant education.
Located on Sentosa Island, the Tourism Academy is spread over a complex of beautifully-restored historical buildings and equipped with a comprehensive range of modern educational facilities. It is also the first institution in Asia to have its campus right in the heart of a thriving resort destination, where students can enjoy the close proximity to the numerous attractions and facilities available on the island.
Sentosa Leisure Group
Sentosa Leisure Group (SLG) is responsible for the management and development of Singapore’s premiere tourist resort island destination of Sentosa. Located on the southern tip of bustling Singapore, Sentosa is a sprawling 500-hectare lush tropical island resort just 15 minutes from the central business district.
Attracting over 5 million visitors annually with a kaleidoscopic blend of themed attractions, hotel retreats, beaches, championship golf courses, luxurious spas, nature trails, historic enclaves, restaurants, retail outlets, year-round events, marina activities and prestigious waterfront residences, Sentosa provides the ideal environment to nurture tomorrow’s hospitality and tourism professionals.
In addition, one of Malaysia’s biggest attractions developer Genting International, is building a 49-hectare, S$5.2-billion development called Resorts World at Sentosa. Expected to open by 2010 and projected to add S$2.7 billion (about 0.8%) to Singapore's GDP, Resorts World at Sentosa will create about 10,000 direct jobs. Some of the key highlights at this massive integrated resort development include Universal Studios and a Marine Life Park.

Student Testimonials
Khine Mon Kyaw, Sweet (Graduate, Apr 2007)
Yangon, Myanmar
I arrived in Singapore when I enrolled for the Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Business with The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa in May 2005.
The first thing I realized was that the teaching methods used at The Tourism Academy were different from Myanmar. Adjusting to the new methods was difficult at first. However, our lecturers were helpful and provided guidance to encourage independent learning and instilled confidence in us.
At The Tourism Academy, we were also encouraged to learn and work in small groups through group projects. As group members come from different countries like China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, we speak English with different accents and also understand certain terms differently. So in our first term, effective communication on academic subjects was often a challenge. Over time, I developed communication skills that helped to overcome the challenges.
Studying and living in Singapore has been very good. As the tourism facilities and services in Singapore are more developed than those in my country, I have had opportunities I would not otherwise have had to pick up practical knowledge and skills. Public transportation is safe and convenient. The variety of food available is numerous and I can find my favourite Myanmar dishes at ‘Little Myanmar’ near City Hall MRT station. As my family is in Singapore, I do not have to think about grocery shopping, laundry and cleaning the house or paying utility bills which most of my classmates have to think about too. They tell me they have become much, much more independent as a result.
I graduated on 21st of May 2007. When I look back, I realized I have been exposed to challenges at The Tourism Academy that allowed me to cultivate confidence in my own abilities and develop skills to prepare me for the industry. I plan to work for at least a couple of years before pursuing a degree. I am proud of what I have achieved and look to my future with confidence.

Sydney, Australia
I was initially planning to take six months off and get some relevant work experience in this industry, but after two months, to my astonishment and delight, I found this Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Business course in Singapore that met all my needs! And so I came to The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa.
My favourite subject is Fundamentals of Food and Beverage because I have always wanted to become a chef and learn more about that part of the industry and, of course, I enjoy the food and drinks-tasting too!
Life here has allowed me to make many friends for life and to communicate with different people from various nationalities which is important in this industry.
I hope to enhance my knowledge in this industry and be a part of the various upcoming opportunities in the industry, for example the two massive integrated resorts that are currently being developed in Singapore: The Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World at Sentosa.
After this course I am hoping to go back to Sydney to finish my degree in hotel management, as I am looking for a career in that industry, but we shall see where the future takes me and hope for the best.
If anyone plans on taking this course I would simply say “Go for it!” because it trains you in the best possible way and you have the experience of your life with different people; you never feel lonely because everyone in the campus being a senior or your batch mate is ready to offer a helping hand. I have taken up this course and honestly, I have no regrets at all.
